I was doing some work for a client in the Bay Area this week. We had a blast together and I was again humbled by how well the human process technology we have developed over the years worked. I continue to be amazed at how little we learn about how to work together effectively and how this stuff that is initially is perceived as "fluffly" rarely fails to deliver better results (not mention more fun) than traditional ways of meeting.
I got up at 4:45. I had a call at 5 with a partner in NYC and the CEO of a company, who was in Holland. We talked in a three way, crystal clear conference call on Skype. I was in the lobby, sipping coffee and talking on my iPhone. All for free. I am getting old! I marvel at this stuff. I can still remember the static and delay on a call between the US and Holland not so long ago as well as the $ 9.50 per minute price tag...
Off to the airport in a bit for a slow week with my family. I'll miss the weather and the customer service. Enjoy your weekends!
Funny enough, my first clear memory of using a mobile phone was when I rented a car in the Bay Area prior to my departure from the US to the Netherlands in 1992. I remember distinctly kicking off my shoes, nestling my feet in the car's plush carpet (what was it, a Cadillac?) and making phone calls while driving along the I-80, direction Oakland. My thought then was exactly the same as yours today: "What a wondrous world." I've continued to be amazed at what's possible, all these 20 years.
Who knows what we'll be experiencing 20 years from now?

Indeed, indeed. How are you, off line?
